Ryder always thought his life wasn't very unusual. In this strange world of soulmates, soulmarks, soul-EVERYTHING. Four years ago, at age 10, like most kids, he developed his 'mark.' His soulmark, however, was unusual. It was a telepathic link. A soulmark save only for those with the stronngest connection to their other half. Or, those destined to die a cruel and unusual fate. The strong connection to his partner drew him in. The boy- yes, boy's- name was Joseph Sanchez. He lived in North Carolina and was a first generation American, originally from Puerto Rico. He was three years older than Ryder. The books flipped when Ryder turned fourteen. Father lost his control. Twelve hours later, Ryder's waking up in a hospital room with Joseph crying by his side. Except, he can't hear anything. Nothing. The world's gone silent. He's gone deaf.

We reached the hospital and Ryder, still being gentle, jumped out of the car. Zach opened the doors for him and they rushed inside the emergency room. "We need a little help." Max asked the nurse at the table. SHe seemed a little bit annoyed. "Sir this is the trauma center. If you have an emergency that can wait...Oh my gosh." She spoke once she looked at me. "Dr!" She looked at a blonde woman walking by. "Yes?" The woman walked over with a smile on her face. The nurse pointed at me. "Over here." She lead the guys to a hospital bed that they laid me down. "If it means anything, she has panic attacks." Ryder explained. "Page Shepard." She told someone. "What's her name?" "Lucy." Ryder told them. Then, light people around me became blurs, than darkness. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maybe you had some high school bullies, but I hope they weren't like Lucy Smith's bullies. Lucy Smith is entering into her first year of high school, going to school with her best friend and four out of her five older, protective brothers. Being part of the Smith family gives her some different effects on the the guys around her and some people don't take too kindly to that. When she runs into Miley, her physically tormenting bully who has serve anger issues, things don't take turns for the better. Thank you to the covers app and the Color Pop phone app for the cover.
