Raina Swift is still trying to pick up the broken pieces of her life, two years after escaping the confines of her home. Finding therapy in her simple life of waitressing during the day and wandering the city during the night, she knows there's no room for happiness, let alone anything more. But that's okay, because she's finally at peace, and that's all she could have ever asked for.

But Raina's quiet, tranquil almost-life is suddenly upturned when Seth Hastings shows up one day at the diner while she's working. She sees some of herself in Seth, and she knows that he has been through just as much as she. So all Raina wants to do is to never see him again, because she's desperate to leave her past exactly there-in the past.

Seth's not willing to let Raina slip through his fingers, though. He understands all too well how difficult it can be to move on, and he knows that Raina will never be able to move on until she faces her demons head-on, instead of running away from them as she has been doing for the past two years. But there's more to their story than a serendipitous encounter in a run-down diner.

Chase Jones. The name alone fills her with dread, and Abigail is pretty positive she'll hold this hatred in her heart until the moment she takes her final breath. Not only was he her personal bully for years; he was also the son of her father's military commander, making her seem like easier prey. But things take an unexpected, one-hundred-and-eighty degree turn when she stumbles upon a secret he tried so desperately to keep hidden. She begins to dream of life in foster care through the eyes of a little boy who wants nothing more than to experience unconditional love. To him, it would be like living in a fairytale. The kind of fairytale Abigail has lived in her entire life. After hearing about a family in need, Abigail finds her heart breaking for whoever they might be. Being the helper that she is, she decides to volunteer herself, but soon discovers just who she signed up to help. She knows this won't be easy. What she has yet to fully grasp is that, just as every storm has a starting point, every person has a story, and every story has at least one storm.

The entire novel was written within a month, and I achieved my goal on November 30th. This is a spin-off to Make Them Scream. It can be read as a stand alone story; however, reading this before Make Them Scream will be a spoiler.
