The magic creatures of the Whirlwood Valley have problems. Jobs are scarce. The humans in charge don't trust them. There's not enough enchantments or haunting territories to go around. There's talk of revolt and a plot to usurp the throne. That's fine, but most would just prefer someone help them fill out the government paperwork required to be taken seriously.

Theodore Grayweather is the man put in charge of fixing this mess. He'd prefer a career in teaching, but this is what happens when you're the son of a famed knight. As ranger Deputy, Theodore is tasked with keeping peace in the Whirlwood. That's going to be tricky when there's rebel monsters threatening to murder him. He needs to get out of this assignment before he winds up dead like his dad. 

But walking away gets harder when he sees how desperate the creatures are for help. The relationship between humans and creatures is breaking down. War is coming. But Theodore can do something about it. He can broker peace and stand up for the common creature. All it will take is risking his life to become a knight like the father he hated.
