An infant is produced, the aftermath of a foolish affair with a dashing man.
It's different though. This infant will cause a war. And yet her mother, a goddess, can't find it within her to kill the young child. She disposes of her to her mortal sister, Kirin, to be hidden for eternity, with the empty promise of return.
16 year old Ianthe lives in blissful unknowing, a simple life between a forest and a meadow. Homeschooled, raised by her aunt, she doesn't ask questions. She just lives in merriment, picking berries and reading to pass her time.
But that all changes now that the prophecy has been released. She was hidden to prevent a war, but it seems Olympus will now depend on her to save it.

It isn't until her cat dies and after picking him up, becomes alive again when she realizes why her mother has locked her away for all these years. She discovers she has the gift of healing. When she confronts her mother about it, her mother reveals to her that they are not human but in fact, Goddesses trapped inside human vessels to protect Kore from the Gods who want to marry her. But things only get worse when one day, as Kore is picking flowers in the meadow, there is an earthquake and she is taken up by this earthquake and falls into the arms of none other than Hades. Flowers and Shadows
Hades and Persephone is a story that has so many different sides to it. Some people romanticize their relationship (often without taking into account certain aspects of the myth) while others insist that Hades was nothing but perverse and awful... even though taking Persephone, after having her father's permission, was quite normal for the time! This is a retelling of the ancient myth, with all the ancient components to it. I researched the story from many different sources and tried to make it as accurate as possible. The only writer's license was the amount of time she spent in the Underworld before Hermes came-- I never found an exact number, so I wrote it as six months, partly so that they had time to truly fall for each other, partly so that she would return to the mortal realm immediately after being returned to Demeter. Persephone is a character who understands the place goddesses and women have in the world, understands the normalcy of her capture, but still struggles with feeling like it's unjust. Hades is a god with few romantic relationships in his past (Leuce and Minthe) who hadn't fallen for anyone for a while and wasn't quite sure how to treat a goddess in a realm he never visited.
