A young solicitor named Ripley is late arriving at a small rural town. After his coach driver refuses to brave the perilous road to Willows Grove by night, Ripley is forced to walk there himself. The foggy journey leads him through a cemetery, and eventually to the foreboding home of Mr Thorn.
