Athena's mother left her already as a 3 year old. So Athena can't remember anything about her but she know that she inherited her mothers beautiful red hair. And Red is an really unusual hair color during this time the story takes place. 

Athena means Goddess of wisdom.

She is really clever even thought she has never been to school. And she is rarely in Town just because the family lives out of Town.
