Seventeen-year old Vanor lived in a world where one wrong foot could get you ended up lying face-up in a ditch. The Kings and Magicians of her land were cruel and merciless. The warriors killed for fun. Vanor just wanted to get through her life lying low while trying to support her family. She had no idea that she would be sucked into the vortex of royalty, dragons and a particularly intriguing boy. Vanor has to leave all that she has known behind as her true nature surfaces and she realizes that dragons are quite easily tamed.
As things hidden begin to surface and things that were meant to stay constant begin to change, Vanor is the only hope for a doomed legacy.

Torin has always felt out of place in his small village. Despite the familiarity of his surroundings, he cannot shake the feeling that he doesn't belong. One fateful day, while attending the annual Dragon Safe Arena, where dragons are brought to be killed for sport and fear, something extraordinary happens. A black dragon, larger and more majestic than any Torin has ever seen, enters the arena. The crowd erupts in excitement, but Torin feels an unexpected connection. The dragon's eyes lock onto his, and in that moment, he hears a voice-not in his ears, but in his mind. The dragon speaks to him, its words clear, yet impossible: "I see you, young one. You do not belong here." In a shock of realization, Torin understands the dragon's plea. No one else can hear it, no one else can understand the words-but Torin can. At that moment, everything changes. He chooses to defy the world he's always known, running away with the dragon, escaping the village that never understood him.
