Play your cards right, and you win the throne. One wrong step, however, and it's your body hung in the courtyard. Lupin Ducourt is a thief and liar. A peasant girl struggling for survival in the capitol's slums, she holds no grand aspirations for adventure and intrigue. "Dreams don't put food on the table", as her mother is so fond of saying. Living from one heist to the next, she has little time to worry over the political affairs of kings. They don't concern her, so why bother with them? Oh, how simple things used to be. A job gone wrong lands her in hot water with the wealthy sort, and the executioner's block looms unbearably close. All hope is lost, unless... Unless she plays the game, of course. Masquerade as the lost princess, win the throne and heart of the handsome Prince Silphim. As long as she follows the commands of her shady new benefactor, things couldn't be more easy. A simple job for a girl who's spent her whole life stealing. Of course, competing against 5 other girls who all claim the same (false?) identity might present a challenge.

I flinch as his hand reaches to my face, and aggressively pulls down the cloak from my head. He surveys my tear stained face and jewelry all the way down to my dress. Then he speaks, "what's your name?" I open my mouth but no words come out. Fear grips me again. "I believe I asked you a question," his eyes grow darker. "Al-Alice" I whisper. His eyes wander outside to the window. "You will address me as 'your highness' and I do not tolerate mistakes. I will punish you and you will never forget to follow my orders.
