Turning 18 typically marks the end of your childhood, but for the 'Berkton kids', it marks their end.
With overpopulation being the foremost problem in this eccentric town, it was decided that the only solution would be to end the lives of a few, for the many. For adolescents like Naia, their futures had already been written off before they were even born, and there was nothing they could do about it. At the end of the day, the law states that a child born in Berkton is not permitted to leave Berkton, condemning them all to a life of counting down the days until they die - but Naia was not about to willingly accept this as her fate.
Convinced the government were using overpopulation as an excuse for killing the youth, Naia knew something had to be done before they ended her life, even if she only had a few months left to do so - at least this way, she could go out knowing she tried her best to make a change.
