Initially, the medical team rules the cause of death to be a heart attack, yet further forensic evidence points to something more sinister. Following his notorious reputation for never leaving a case unsolved, he begins to decipher this mystery. Meanwhile, 16 years old Rainer Ringquist, who struggles through school as much as through life itself, finds himself standing at the threshold that would forever change his destiny. What begins as a macabre case for Detective Emmerich and a tragic start of summer vacation for Rainer will soon intertwine their fates, pull them into the darkest depths of the abyss and unveil more about themselves and the world than they could've ever bargained for. After all, once darkness has seized you, it will never let go -- holding you tightly within its unrelenting embrace. Will you take the plunge with them?

Eighteen people arrive at a remote mountain lodge - couples, friends, strangers- each drawn by different reasons: a vacation, a retreat, a break from life. None of them realize they've been lured there by something deeper than coincidence. Something ancient. Something waiting. As a snowstorm seals them in, unsettling events begin to unravel their reality. Hallucinations. Shifting memories. Sudden violence. The lodge becomes a trap, and one by one, they begin to fall - victims of forces none of them can explain. But this isn't the first time. Though they don't remember it, they've all been here before. In other lives. Other versions of themselves. And each time, the outcome is the same. There is a reason they keep coming back.
