Since Virgil and Roman met, they've been trying to get each other as flustered as possible in any given situation. Remus and Janus obviously noticed the signs and began bets with Virgil to see how far he'd go while still calling Roman his 'friend'.

When Roman gets a penpal for his college English Lit class, he isn't all too happy about who he's gotten. His penpal is mysterious, angsty, and he doesn't seem all that friendly, but he is determined to get passed that tough exterior. But it doesn't help that he refuses to tell Roman his name. Virgil wasn't all too surprised about a random letter showing up at his house. He was already made aware of the penpal assignment that Mr. Sanders was doing for his English class and got his permission to give him to one of his student who he believed they would "make a great pair". He tries to convince himself he's happy as he returns to his house every night after working overtime and falling asleep on the couch only to start the cycle again the next day. One day he passes by a school after having to take a different route because of roadworks and he spots a cheery, light brown haired teacher by the elementary school.
