(🔖Wattys nominated 2021) (🍋slow burn) An American student named Gabriel Steiger and her college friends meet a mysterious man at London nightclub. The tall, dark stranger says he has a game called Crimson Chess. Gabriel needs to explain what a vampire's true nature is and the vampire, Vali Draganu, attempts to seduce her with the human perception of vampires. If she doesn't fall in love within a certain time frame, she is set free. If she fails and falls for Vali, he will kill her in a sexually gruesome way, only fittingly done by a vampire.
This story is sadist in nature and protray vampires as cruel beings. It is violent and meant to be disturbing as are vampires should they exist. There is a sexual component but would not be classified remotely as a healthy relationship. (artwork: Solid &etc.)
