If it's alright, I'm going to give a bit of backstory. In this story, Voldemort attacked the Potters after hearing a 'prophecy' from Dumbledore/Trelawney. This attack didn't kill anyone, since he stunned the adult Potters before attempting to kill Harry. Obviously this failed, and he was left without a body. On Dumbledore's orders, the attack remained secret until he needed it to be used for propaganda and power.

Three Little Snakelings
The stories were wrong. Harry Potter wasn't an only child. Harry didn't know he had any siblings. Until Hogwarts he couldn't remember much. Then there were the gaps in his memory, mentions of the little freaks and odd traces in his cupboard. When he met Hermione he felt like a piece that had been missing came back but he wasn't complete yet. Then there was the issues with Malfoy and he would be drawn to but felt angry at for some reason.
