I woke in a room that I didn't recognise. The walls were a bright blue, the floor made of a dark hardwood. I lay in a twin sized bed with blue blankets and sheets. When I sat up I noticed the full length mirror on the back of the door. An unfamiliar face stared back at me, a stranger followed my movements as I climbed out of the bed and walked towards the door. Bright red hair corkscrewed out of my scalp and created a curly mane that fell to my shoulders. Green eyes above dark circles stared as if haunted into the mirror back at me, scrutinising my outfit. A short skirted, sleeveless dress in black followed the curves, or angles, of my body and stopped inches above my knees. I had just enough time to raise an eyebrow at the outfit before the knob on the door turned. They told me my name was Melinda, Melinda Van Dyke. They told me I was 23. I was told that I had a brain like no other, that I was a gift to society, that others saw me as a monster and had tried to kill me.All Rights Reserved
