Hasta ahora he contado sesenta y siete galerías. Sesenta y cinco escaleras. Mil trescientos anaqueles. He perdido la cuenta de los libros. Muchos de ellos, en deplorable estado, se van deshojando como árboles en otoño. A cada itinerario de esta mente, ya no logro distinguir entre lo que busco y lo que es mejor encontrar. Iluminada, solitaria, infinita. "La biblioteca de Babel".
Tomé un libro al azar, sin prestar atención al título que lleva impreso. A decir verdad, no describe en su portada la índole de su contenido. Al abrirlo, me encuentro con páginas polvorientas y ambarinas, manchadas por la humedad y el olvido. Algo me atrae inexorablemente a leerlas. Distingo apenas, en la primera de ellas, un nombre: HADASSA.

In JOS I set the rogue and con-artist Harric against a foil of warriors in a land threatened by magic and civil war. Whenever possible I turn familiar tropes on their heads: instead of a handsome young Lancelot, I cast a broken-down ex-champion addicted to pain-killing herbs; instead of a dashing Squire Brian, the old knight reluctantly takes an ambitious young woman as squire. Similarly, I re-imagine the standard medieval milieu by infusing aspects of two of my favorite historical periods, Elizabethan England, and The American Frontier. Both eras boast a kind of nationalistic arrogance that borders on hubris, and a magnificent spirit of resourcefulness and re-invention that is fun to play with.
