It was me or her. He knew that. He couldn't have both of us.
I was just hoping he saw who she really was. And if he didn't...I knew i'd never get over him. He wasn't one of those people that you moved on from.
But I guess nobody ever really gets over their first love.
He looked between us, and in the moonlight reflecting off his eyes, I knew who he would choose.
And as he smiled at himself, I knew that he made his choice long before this. But was it the choice that would leave me brokenhearted?
As he mumbled a name, my breath hitched in my throat.
I knew this would be a summer that changed everything.

I was drowning. I knew that. I also knew that the hands around my throat, pushing me deeper into the river water was the cause. What I didn't know was who was drowning me and why. It hurt thinking. It hurt to do anything right now. But I still screamed under the cold water and pushed the hands away as hard as I could. It didn't have much effect.
