Adelaide isn’t as human as everyone thinks. All her childhood, any emotion she felt would lead to a flash of light so dangerously bright that anyone could have been blinded, but no one knows it comes from her. Years after it begins, Adelaide’s father dies, and the lights disappear - until six years later.

The very night the flashes of light come back and hurt the blacksmith’s son, Thomas, after he kisses her, their entire village is burned to the ground by a fire that doesn’t seem natural, and instead of going to save their families and friends, Adelaide and Thomas begin to run and hide.

But there are darker things lurking around, and Adelaide must travel between worlds to wage a war that will affect the fate of both worlds, all in the hope of saving just one world. But what will Adelaide be willing to give up for the fate of Melaria and the Ikalae?
