He is now crowned king of the Pride Lands with many responsibilities and to his dismay, many challenges. His father, the late king Simba left him the lands but because of his untimely death there are many secrets that are left untold. 

To make things worse, the Pride Lands are in the middle of one of the worst droughts and the animals are deserting the lands. This alerts many lions and even causes some new faces to come around demanding solutions...or fight for the lands.
