The Mikaleson's saved the twins from being whipped even more than they already had been. Klaus and Kol ended up being her mates as soon as they set their eyes on her. When they got older and Marcellus found out he started to try and keep her away from them. But, she would find a way to get around his back to get to her mates. And Marcellus would find a way to have a 'secret' relationship with Rebekah. Even though Marcellus told his sister everything and vice versa.
Then, the Mikaelson's had to leave New Orleans to get away from Mikeal. Soon after they left Marcellus got turned into a Vampire while Maise was being raped and turned into a Vampire and Werewolf Hybrid by a Werewolf and Vampire down in the Bayou. She finds out she's a Hybrid two days after she's turned when its a full moon.
