When she goes out she is to wear powder on her face to hide the black veins protruding through her pale flesh. After leaving her home to go to the village, she becomes both a hero and a criminal.
Having exposed herself to the world, Kayleigh flees to keep her mother safe and entrusts the help of a young blue blood tracker to help her escape from the hands of the black blood royals chasing her. She meets people her mother warned her about and finds out her mother just might have been wrong about the world.
After a betrayal, Kayleigh is left wondering. Is there anyone you can trust in a world full of magic?
