Giữa thế kỉ XXV, toàn thế giới bỗng xảy ra một trận đại dịch mang tên IV, nó chỉ xảy ra với trẻ em dưới mười tám tuổi và phụ nữ mang thai, cơ thể bệnh nhân bị nhiễm bệnh ban đầu sẽ phát sốt nặng, sau đó qua một tuần sẽ có hiện tượng mạch máu nổi khắp toàn cơ thể, ngoài những điều đó, bệnh nhân hoàn toàn được coi là bình thường.
Nhưng cho đến khi đại dịch kết thúc, những người mẹ đều khỏe mạnh, tuy nhiên, đứa con mà họ sinh ra bị coi là.. quái vật, ngay cả những đứa trẻ ngoài kia cũng vậy, chúng bỗng nhưng bị thay đổi về hình dạng, về cơ thể, về tế bào, những đứa trẻ biến dị ấy gần như bị cô lập bởi xã hội, bởi cha mẹ họ, không ai có thể chấp nhận đứa con không bình thường như thể được. 
Nhưng không phải tất cả đều bị, toàn thế giới chỉ có 1/4 trẻ em bị biến dị sau khi đại dịch rời đi. Và rồi, một tháng sau đó, một tổ chức mang tên Happy Orphanage chấp nhận để những đứa trẻ biến dị ấy vào trại của họ để điều trị và nuôi dưỡng. Tuy nhiên, những đứa trẻ đi vào, không một ai đi ra cả...
