The Walker family are going on a much needed getaway and everybody seems to be happy with the decision except Eleanor. Her dad is obsessed with the mini-golf, her brother is making friends with everybody his age and Eleanor is left to lie on a sun-lounger, regularly apply suntan lotion and read the same magazine again and again.

And then her dad spontaneously signs her up for a game of volleyball and Eleanor meets Fletcher Sullivan, Australian, attractive and annoying.

Suddenly Eleanor is starting to think that maybe a getaway won't be such a bad idea.

Shay and her best friend, Danielle went to a Fourth of July beach party after the parade that morning when Shay meets this hot guy. Will is with his best friend, Bryan at the same party and meets this hot girl. They swap numbers and Will gets up the courage to call the stranger he met on the beach. Shay gets a call from a phone number she doesn't recognize but answers anyways and realizes it's the hot guy she met at the beach. They start spending time together and are sad when the summer comes to an end and they have to start spending less time together. Things go from bad to worse when Shay finds that Will is her new English teacher and vice verse. Told through both Shay and Will's perspectives consistently.
