*Completed* Apocryphal Family Tree exists between American Gods by Neil Gaiman and Sister Mine by Nalo Hopkinson with deities from the African diaspora along with a mix of supernatural creatures from folklore, myth, and legend. The story follows Lenny, a recent college grad who wanted to heal the rift between her immediate family and her maternal extended family, but realizes her parents did not tell her the whole truth about their estrangement. Lenny is plunged into an unfamiliar world where her ability to see and communicate with the dead is a small part of a much larger picture. Content warning: I make an attempt to address colorism and internalized anti-Blackness toward the end of the book, but I'm still learning and figuring out how to do address it correctly so the depiction/handling is definitely very rough.
