The thief

In the year 2050, a small group of scientists found solid evidence that the species of humans were soon to be extinct. Their first response was to alarm the government. However, that did not turn out as wanted. They were called crazy and delusional, by every person in power. The later did not want to act on something and reduce their power.
And so to save the species, the scientist began experiencing new and better humans that could be able to survive the events to come. Since they did not have any time to lose, they started to gather volunteers for human experiments. No results were ever sufficient. The subject would die not a day after being injected the serum.
The government of the union, all the countries, decided to burry the mad-men. The scientist and their experiments were buried alive in a glass box several kilometers underneath the surface in the deserted area of Wyoming.

As predicted, the following year the human population began to drastically drop. Every illness known to man rose or came back in full force in whatever country. The ground shook, sea level rose and volcanoes exploded. It was truly horrific.

But this, no one knows this in Nitrea. The last standing city on Earth, populated with the descendants of the muted scientists.
