On Class Struggle and the Origin of Racial Slavery: The Invention of White Race

Racial slavery and white supremacy was a ruling-class response to a problem of labor solidarity. The consequence was not only ruinous to the interests of the Africans brought to the " New World" as slaves and indentured workers but was also disastrous for the European poor and indentured workers. Race was a solution to a class problem that consolidated poor European indentured labourers with the ruling class of Planters under the banner of "White".
