In futuristic America,there's a drawing for the sixteen year olds who live in the twenty sectors that surround the Heart.

Then there's sixteen year old Iris Nadia Willow–a girl who hunts outside the wall while her foster parents trade on the Black Market. Anna Eliza Willow,her sister—provides medical help to those who cannot afford it.

When at the Gathering Banquet and Anna is chosen to serve in the military,Iris steps up to volunteer only to face harsh and grueling initiation that only few survive.

She meets a rebellious leader named Jett who she falls in love with,but then everything around her is threatened.
