What if Anakin realized that Palpatine was lying only after Order 66? After choking his wife, fighting his master, and killing countless Jedi? 

 "It's over Anikan!" Obi-Wan called. "I have the high ground!" Anakin looked up at Obi-Wan, furry still burning in his eyes. He wanted to kill Obi-Wan. He burned with hatred toward this man, his betrayal. The betrayal of all the Jedi. Looking up at the face of this man, the inferno behind them reflecting in his blue eyes. The darkness possessing Anakin filled him with the need to kill this man. The burning desire to finish what he had started, and kill the man he had once foolishly called master. 

"You were the chosen one, it is said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them!" Obi-Wan cried, sweat dripping down his furrowed brow, as he looked into the cold yellow eyes of the man he had considered a friend, now filled with fury. "It's not too late."
