Mirai Fox was never the same after the first time she stepped foot outside the walls with the Survey Corps. She thought she was prepared for the horrors of the Titans but she couldn't have been more wrong. Losing her closest friends in a matter of minutes rattled her to her core and the soldier made of iron broke.
Several years later, Mirai has returned home to her parents and siblings leaving her military days long behind her. Living alongside her family of five she finally feels like her life has come full circle. Even with her mother's annoying spoutings of marriage and the constant shadow of her past love lingering over her she finally has reached a point of normality and, with it, safety.
But then everything changed. Her father and brother are suddenly killed on an expedition leaving an empty position in need of filling in the Special Operations Squad. When Captain Levi comes calling to conscript her back to the military in her late brother's place, Mirai's safe world comes crashing down around her. The nightmares of her past come on with a vengeance of fire and fury threatening to overtake her at every turn. Mirai's abilities make her a valuable asset without a shadow of a doubt but her fear of the Titans makes her an undeniable hindrance.
With her new friends' lives at stake and a growing attraction to her superior, Mirai struggles to keep her head as she once again steps out beyond the safety of the walls. How can she let anyone in when she's had years of practice at keeping everyone out? Heavy with battle scars she fights not only for her own survival, but for the survival of those that she loves and vengeance for those that she's lost but will never forget.
