50 parts Ongoing MatureIt was a crisp autumn afternoon in Aoyama, Japan, where the narrow streets were lined with vibrant red and orange leaves. The scent of roasted chestnuts filled the air as families and children strolled through the park. Among the laughter and playfulness of the local kids, there was one who stood out-not because he was part of the fun, but because he wasn't.
Gyutaro sat in the dirt, his knees scraped, and his body covered in bruises. His thin, fragile form made him an easy target for the other children in the park. They circled around him, their taunts piercing.
"Look at him! He looks like a ghost with all those marks," one boy sneered, kicking dirt toward Gyutaro. "How can someone be that ugly?"
Gyutaro curled into himself, biting his lip to keep from crying. His heart pounded, each insult landing like a fresh bruise on his already broken spirit. He had grown used to it-their cruel words, their jabs at his appearance-but it didn't make it any easier to endure.
"Leave him alone!" A clear, determined voice broke through the cruel laughter, silencing the group. A small girl stood at the edge of the circle, her fists clenched tightly by her sides. She looked no older than Gyutaro, her face flushed with anger.
