Cleo starts middle school and feels extremely out of place. She doesn't fit in with the girls, and prefers the care-free guys. She sticks with one of her lady friends through middle school and continues to feel that she can't fit with her properly like girls are supposed to.
Her whole year comes crashing down when she meets a guy a grade ahead of her, attending at her middle school. She never really talks to Jacob. He's popular and has a girlfriend, so why bother?
Time passes. Cleo only has one friend still and is now going into high school. Only one person knows her, or at least knows her secret.
Over the year and a half left after middle school, Cleo changes her name and does 'The Switch'. Now that he is no longer a girl, his name is Theo. But high school once again gets flipped around when Theo becomes slightly more popular and makes friends with his middle school crush, however, still completely in love with him.
