With time travel necessary for the continuation of life on earth, a teenage girl undertakes her first assignment, leaving the comforts of the midwest for the Institute through a closed timelike curve to a musical adventure in Victorian England. Can she uncover the people and ideas necessary to complete this crucial assignment? In this first part of the future's plan to save humankind, Sal is an extraordinary woman on the way to understanding how ideas can set people free, as well as understanding herself.
