Isla Young is one of the thousands of women in a overpowered country named Numiside, where simple human rights are seemingly a given to men, whereas women must stay quiet, and not interact with any man in a romantic way until the annual Choosing Ceremony where the new Dictator hand picks his wife, or else they will be imprisoned.
Isla resents the government because of the abusive power they have over their people, especially her family who is forced to live in poverty. But when she is picked to be courted with the new Dictator, she must fight for her voice. Will she escape? Or will she be bounded to her country forever?
