The fates wouldn't let her stay there anymore. She knew she had to leave, to get away from them, to get away from the monsters before she lost herself to them. They had changed, it was cruel the change they had gone through. They say that the leader is responsible for setting the tone. But what if the leader was cruel, as cruel as the people he surrounded himself with. She couldn't care about the mate she was leaving behind. She couldn't care about the handprints on her neck that followed her, handprints that belonged to her own sister. She certainly couldn't think of the life she lost in that house she used to call home.
So it must have been because of the Fates that when she woke up, she woke up in a new world, in a new life, a life where she didn't have to be the broken girl anymore. A life where she could be happy and free. She could do anything because the monsters took everything, everything but her spirit.

"Shift." His voice hit me like a serrated blade as he stepped out of the crude semicircle of hardened wolves that had formed around me.
