The world was toxic and overrun with monsters. Even with their elemental abilities, humans could only survive in monarch ruled city-states, domed by energy shields that protect them from the virulent gases and dangerous beasts. But ununited in their survivability, people found ways to wage wars against each other.

It protected them from the dangers of the southern forest, along with their energy shields, and thus very few were allowed to go past it. As the daughter of the emperor, Raylin Morgaine thought she had retained the privilege to do so.
