Basically they met each other during the cybertronian version of the "Divergent" Aptitude test.

Wheeljack obviously got the wreckers(Dauntless) result.
Amanda naturally got the medics(Abnegation) but also got the wreckers(Dauntless) and scientist(Erudite). When she chooses at the choosing ceremony she had chosen the wreckers(Dauntless). She and two of her sisters chose the wreckers(Dauntless), but finds out about a slight issue with Wheeljack and his Sire have had going on for quite some time.
