18 year old Emmalyn Katherine Coleman has been leading a tough life since she was old enough to talk, let alone walk. Shunned by her parents for being a girl she is treated as their personal slave, while her brothers, Alexander and Jacob, are both placed on high pedestals.
Boss, a man to whom her family is in great debt contacts the family in hopes of calling upon Jack, Emmalyn’s father, to do his bidding. Instead he is greatly surprised when young Emmalyn answers the phone and he, of course, takes this opportunity to acquire a younger, and more useful puppet to do his bidding's.
Emmalyn, between juggling work at Boss’, attempting to pay accumulating bills, and school, does her best to keep her younger brother, Alex, out of trouble, which more often than not, leads her to the police station. Of this she doesn’t mind for when she had become the ripe age of 16, her uncle James, a very well-known and respected man, law man, was murdered. Ever since she has spent whatevre time she could spare putting together clues and coming up with possible suspects, but never to any avail.
Things become even more complicated than they already are when one of the biggest Mafia leaders in the states son, Edward, comes to town and they cross paths. How will Emmalyn cope with working for Boss, supporting her family, working 3 part-time shifts, passing school, slaving for her parents, trying to evade Edward and looking for her uncles murderer before they decide to strike again?
