I've actually wanted to write a story based on this line for awhile now and why not do it about a haunted hotel ?
Incorporating some aspects of "The Haunting of Hill House" as well, like all those who die in the house, stay there forever
Also pulling architectural details from the Winchester Mystery House
Inspiration includes Miss Peregrine's House for Peculiar Children
Hotel is based off the Claremont Hotel in California
Setting: a stand alone / massive hotel (only one building, but imagine a hotel similar to the one in the shining) spread across many acres. In (not a desert but an environment similar to a desert) in California.
Time period: 1970's
Characters: Heather, age 24. Christine, age 26. Lori, age 23.
Plot: 3 friends have heard this legend about a hotel in the middle of nowhere and decide to go and see if it is real or if it is really just a legend.

I pulled the covers off my legs and tried to stand up. My attempt of standing up failed. But I tried again. I was so dizzy I fell against the nightstand, successfully catching Dante's attention. - Go back to sleep pet. He sternly stated. - I don't want to sleep with you watching me. - Can't you see I'm not even paying attention to you. He said not even making eye contact. - I don't care your mere presence is still annoying. I tried to stand again and I was finally able to stand on my feet. Zoe and her father have moved into the Winchester House. During her time in the Winchester House, Zoe feels good and evil presents. She cant help shake the feeling that some is watching her, all the time. Almost as if it's protecting her from something. One night while exploring the house she meets Sebastian, who has mysterious wounds on his shoulder and his back. She is intrigued by him, he is also intrigued by her. They cant stop seeing each other even though when ever they do, no good follows. Zoe also meets a very sexy grounds keeper that always comes out at night. Little does she knows that her attraction to him could be her last. P.S. For those reading who don't know what the Winchester house is, it is a old possibly haunted house that was built in the 1800's by Sarah Winchester. She was told by a physic that she was cursed and the only way she could help her curse was to, build a house for all of the people that fell victim to the Winchester riffle. The house is still a mystery even today for it's mysterious architectural designs such as walls behind doors, stair cases that lead to no where and over a hundred rooms. The debate still continues today, as to weather Sarah was crazy or not. Today the Winchester house is a tourist attraction in San Jose California.Complete

How at one particular moment, things changed when she heard odd noises coming from out of her wardrobe. Even after years of experiencing the same thing at night over and over again, she still wasn't able to figure out why she was being haunted by the entity in her closet since the day she turned eleven. She eventually decided not to ponder about it anymore and get used to the situation. But then, a couple of days before her seventeenth birthday, she starts to discover a very dark past that has way more to do with herself than she could have ever imagined." I can't believe my longest story is written in English (since that isn't my native language), but it is and I'm... kinda... PROUD of it! Echos Of The Past
Izzy was meeting up with a group of her friends at an abandoned hotel. As they continued to walk along the floors the boards creaked.They heard so many scary stories about this place that a couple was murdered in room C3 on the third floor. A case never truly solved because no one had been able to set foot in that room. Izzy and her friends wanted to test this and see if this was really true. Izzy started to wander off from her friends in a different direction not realizing her and her friends have been separated. She was calling out for her friends "Tyler,Hannah,Justin!". As she is calling for them she is going deeper and deeper into this hotel. She keeps hearing faint whispers she says "Anyone there?" but no response.She receives a text on her phone from her friends that they are on the third floor waiting for her. She walks down a very dark hallway scattered with trash and the lights are flickering on and off. She comes to this elevator. Izzy entered the empty elevator and pushed the button for my floor. You only have the days in the month, and you cannot plan or start writing before the first day of the month. You also cannot finish before the last day, so you must span your time out wisely (or just write the last two words on the last day, whatever floats your boat). If, however, you do NOT finish the book by 12 AM on the last day of the month (so in October's case 12 AM on Halloween), you have to kill off your main character(s). She then learns that this was a murder - and that the culprit could still be on Winstead's campus.
