Thomas Pepper, bootlegger, gangster intern, and literary scholar falls in love with Eula Gray, the beautiful daughter of a hotel owner. All seems romantically right, until Samuel Beauchamp steps in, a French-Texan, wealthy heir to a banking corporation with a horrible agenda that involves a love triangle and almost-murder.
