Author's note before you start this book: it's a super slow exposition! It takes a while before we truly get to know Ithtir, the first three chapters are really really introductory and we don't see the flaws and things of the main character. The 5th chapter is where we learn about everyone!

Ithtir is the daughter of Tauriel of the Woodland Realm and Kili of Erebor. Second in line for the mountain after her Uncle Fili and father Kili die. Thorin Oakensheild died just a few years past, and the mountain is finally getting back to normal under a new king. They hear of a possible fellowship being sent on a mission from Rivendell, so King Fili sends Ithtir and Gimli, son of Gloin to Rivendell. They join The Fellowship of the Ring along with Aragorn, Legolas of the Woodland Realm, Boromir of The Stewards of Gondor, Gandalf the Grey, and four little hobbits; Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Peregrin Took, and Meriadoc Brandybuck.
