What May Rise From the Ashes

When grand-director Lorn Van Shipplestorm threatens Ofronia Mills' job, she has no choice but to act. She has spent all her life as a librarian, she is far too old to retire. The library itself might be in danger, and not just from Ofronia's replacement, Tess Dingly, it-girl and reluctant librarian apprentice. No, the danger lies in the nobles, who have all but taken over, baring the general populace from even entering the hallowed halls.
Flying below their notice, Ofronia has kept the library's greatest secret, the fourth basement, from Van Shipplestorm's notice for years. If Ofronia is fired, someone will find the entrance. And the books down there are dangerous. Not because they would send someone with a dust allergy into an instant coma, but because they are magic.
Now, Ofronia has to make a choice; walk away quietly, as she has done all her life, or disobey to safe the library she has cherished for decades.
