You see, it hasn't always been this dark. This cold. This lonely. Although once the sickness lached hold of my soul, I began to tread the water immediately.

Starting Varsity basketball pick. All state track runner. Most wittest of my class. Class Favorite. Happy relationship.

That's what my life use to be. Back when everyone still loved me.Before I took a plunge into depths where I remained untouchable.

The rain lashed down around us, the world reduced to a blur of water and light. I pulled my damp hair away from my face, feeling the cold droplets slide down my skin as my heart raced faster than the storm itself. RJ stood inches away, his expression a mixture of frustration and something deeper that I couldn't quite name. "𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚!" he shouted over the cacophony of raindrops hitting the pavement. The intensity in his bright hazel eyes cut through the grey, igniting a warmth that both terrified and exhilarated me. "𝐑𝐉, 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝!" I shot back, my voice trembling, not just from the chill but from the raw emotions swirling between us. He had no idea how hard it was to shake off the shadows of my past. "𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐞? 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐈 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐮𝐩?" "𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭!" His frustration crackled in the air, thick with tension. "𝐘𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝!" I took a step back, feeling the rain soak through my clothes, weighing me down. "𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝! 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭." RJ closed the distance, his voice low but fierce. "𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭. 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮. 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧." For a moment, the storm faded into the background.

[BWWM] I was only twelve years old when the world turned cold. The day my mom died in that car accident, I felt like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over my heart. My dad, who had always been my hero, suddenly became a stranger, filled with rage and blame. He couldn't see that I was hurting, too; he only saw me as a reminder of his loss. The accusations cut deep. He said it was my fault for being there, for not doing something to save her. For being the reason she was in the car in the first place. In the years that followed, things only got worse. The abuse started gradually-a harsh word here, a shove there-but it escalated, leaving scars that I carried long after the physical pain faded. I was drowning in my own despair, struggling to keep my head above water while my father's anger raged like a storm around me. I only had a break from his anger when I started living with Aunt Dina-my mom's older sister. Well, that was because she found me nearly dead on my bed after I took a dozen pills. I was tired of living. I had hit rock bottom. The harsh whispers that followed me around and the stares at school. I pretended not to notice, like it didn't bother me. But it did. I was alone. Then came Athalia, a ray of sunshine cutting through my darkness. With her, I felt something I hadn't felt in years-happiness. She became my light through the darkness and my lifeline. ••••••••••• ● Warnings ⚠️ ~ Mention of suicide ~ Anxiety attacks ~ Rape attempt ~ Mention of self-harm ~ Depression
