This is an alternative ending  to George Orwell's short story "A Hanging." The first and last paragraph of the story are from the original text, but the middle parts are completely my own. I was asked to do this as part of a class and found the assignment extremely interesting; I would recommend this to anyone looking to practice their writing.

PROLOGUE My name is Alex Kahill. On July 15, 2017, I killed a person, but am not accused of murder. However, I am being hunted by those who hold me responsible for this death...and most certainly, these folks fully intend to terminate my life.
