In a small town named Lockwood parents are forced to send their children away if they have any mental problems like for example Schizophrenia.
Everest isn't your ordinary teenager... she was abandoned when she was 9 years old. Her mother was the one who noticed these symptoms and didn't want to get in trouble for not sending her away.
At school girls her age would pick on her for talking to herself. She would murmur things like, "please stop. It hurts." Or "Just leave me alone!" The teachers were scared of this youngster.
