Sanae and Ruby's relationship started falling apart after they suffered a miscarriage. The loss changed them both, and they grew distant, each feeling guilty. Ruby took it especially hard and began shutting everyone out, even her wife, Sanae. This hurt Sanae deeply, and she eventually decided to ask for a divorce.
One night, after picking Ruby up from a night out, they finally had a talk. Later, as Ruby fell asleep in the car, Sanae realized the brakes weren't working. They got into an accident, which caused both of them to lose their memories of each other, turning them into strangers.
