Perseus Jackson needed a new beginning after the tragedies of the giant war. With the constant reminder from his missing leg and dysfunctional shoulder, he needed a good distraction. So when Hecate came to him, offering him a new start, it was pretty hard offer to resist.
Harry Potter is hoping for a normal year at Hogwarts. Yes, he had been offers a spot as an Auer which meant he didn't have to retake courses but, with Lord Voldemort finally gone for good, he needed a break.
