After Saving the Pokemon continents Ash and the others had trained in the Alola region for the serene landscapes and for the legendary Z-moves. Now Ash feels confident enough to return and start earning the badges over again from square one. Along the way he will make new friends and see some old ones. He also has the warning of Necrozma to worry about. In their wake many evil organizations have reformed because of him. Though there is one he has never heard of before called Team Cipher and they have the ability to do something horrible to Pokemon. They close off the most important part of the Pokemon, their hearts, in order to create Shadow Pokemon. Once again it is up for the Legendary Defenders and the Pokemon of the Wigglytuff guild to save the day.

Those really common themes for these books. Any way when Ash got home from the Kalos league all of his friends and almost all of his pokemon wanted him to give up on his dream. Heart broken he and his two remaining loyal pokemon Charizard and Greninja went to look at the ocean. He found out that his friend Gary still believed in him.
