She attends the local community college and she's never moved, nor has she ever left home. Anaya finds herself in a dangerous situation where she continues to get abused by her oldest brothers' best friend and is forced to keep it a secret. She can't help but feel empty inside until the day she meets Jared Parks, an artist at her school, who is new to the town and has sparked an interest in her. He only seeks to get to know her, but Anaya fears she might ultimately destroy herself if she continues to suffer through the torment of keeping this secret. Torn between hiding this dangerous relationship from her brothers, jeopardizing her safety, and having her own happiness, Anaya knows she has to get out of it, and letting Jared in might be her only way out.
