Quietly, I sat on my bed, hugging my stuffed leopard. I wanted to bring her, but I never did. What if she got torn or lost? It was the only thing I had of my parents, who were long gone. They had died in a car crash when I was seven. My face grew hot with unshed tears, but I willed myself not to cry. It would be a sign of weakness, one I could not afford.

Sighing, I stood, putting the stuffed animal back onto the bed. Looking around one last time, I walked out the door.

I'm really fucking sorry." His voice broke like he finally understood what loss tasted like. She stared at him with a sad, devastating smile. "Isn't it too late for that, Mate?"
