You aren't judged by who you are, you are judged by what is written on your face. 

Society is made up of civilians that have strange, inked symbols imprinted on their face. The symbols on your face represent what kind of a person you are and begin to make an appearance from the age of ten. From then on a symbol is imprinted on your face every year on your birthday. 

Unlike everyone else Adam Fowles is an anomaly; the only person living, who is seventeen, and isn't a part of the inked revolution.

They tattoo your face and pit you against your peers, against the city. Nance doesn't know why, but it doesn't matter, because she's sixteen and it's her turn to be marked. **So I decided to replace the original story with the rewrite because they are pretty much exactly the same. Plus, it's a lot less complicated then having two separate books for the same story.** There is a * next to all rewritten chapters. THE ORIGINAL VERSION IS COMPLETE.
