"God, you're so annoying!"
"Shut up, you love me." He grinned, reaching up and holding my face with his large hand. I shivered at the feel of the cold, silver rings on my face, ignoring his eye contact as best as I could.
There was a small pause. A moment of silence as his grin faded slowly. An almost daring silence hung in the air between us, tension so thick it could be cut with a knife. He paused, his eyebrows creasing.
He stared at me for another moment longer, a glare forming on his face and his fangs poking slightly out of his mouth. He squeezed my face tighter, bringing our faces closer and forcing eye contact.
"Right?"
"You're different from what I expected," she said softly.
"How so?" he asked, glancing at her.
"I don't know," she replied, searching for the right words. "You just... have this way of making people feel like they matter. Even here, in this... nightmare."
He was quiet for a moment before responding. "You matter, Y/n. Don't forget that."
